Rusty Griswold is a young father and model family man who is eager to bring his family together and recreate a vacation from his childhood. Together with his wife and two sons, he decides to take an unforgettable trip across the country, the ultimate destination being the best theme park in America. Having carefully planned everything, they set off on the road, hoping that a very fun and exciting journey awaits them.

At the beginning of the trip everything goes as well as possible, but the farther they get from home, the more problems await them ahead. Things didn't go at all the way Rusty had planned, but he's not going to stop and is willing to do whatever it takes to get to his destination and give his family the best vacation possible.
