10 Movies Like Nowhere Special (2020)

As the boss (Willem Dafoe) of a Chicago-based headhunter prepares to retire, Dane Jensen (Gerard Butler), who works at the Blackridge Recruiting agency arranging jobs for engineers, vies to achieve his longtime goal of taking over the company going head-to-head with his ambitious rival, Lynn Vogel (Alison Brie). However, Dane's 10-year-old son, Ryan (Maxwell Jenkins), is suddenly diagnosed with cancer and his professional priorities at work and personal priorities at home begin to clash with one another.

It is not strange or unusual for a couple to want to procreate and have a child. However, things are not proceeding smoothly for the couple formed by Kiyokazu and his wife Satoko. Despite steadily trying to get the wife pregnant the couple yield to reality and, exhorted by a professional association, the couple proceed to adopt a boy. They two are happily adapting to their adopted son, but a woman named Hikari Katakura shows up soon enough emphasizing she is the boy's biological mother. Satoko decides to face Hikari.

The action of the film takes place in two periods of time. An old man leads his son through a forest, and is simultaneously under his care confined to bed with a deadly illness.

John Netherwood and his wife Leann are fugitives who are both wanted for murder. They have a young daughter named Janie. John and Leann are in the process of robbing a house when the two residents of the house show up. John kills the two residents and heads back to the car with Leann - only to discover the police waiting for them. John and Leann get away after a cop shoots John, and Janie is placed up for adoption.

Recent widower Ben Westman suddenly loses his executive job in the advertising firm he co-founded and decides not to replace the latest quickly resigning housekeeper. While he seeks another job, far from easy with CEOs like Craig Vertillo believing everything has to be changed on account of the new media, Ben cooks, cleans and raises his pre-teen son Dylan, who desperately needs a firm fatherly hand, and brat daughter Lindsay (14), who needs boundaries with boy-friend Brandon. Some help comes from Ben's brother Brian and Dylan's teacher Hope Jensen, who also becomes Ben's first post-widowing date.

Linda and Michael, married for ten years, desperately want a baby and turn to an adoption agency which introduces them to Lucy, a teenage girl expecting her first baby. The three agree that Linda and Michael will adopt Lucy's baby and that Lucy will sign away custody. Things don't go quite to plan however..
